To successfully complete the PL-7008 course and practical skills assessment (Create agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio), no in-depth programming knowledge is officially required (it is a low-code approach). However, Microsoft recommends the following prior knowledge for successfully following the lab exercises:
Basic (required) prior knowledge:
-
Microsoft Power Platform basics: A general understanding of the platform’s purpose, with an emphasis on Power Automate, as it is regularly used to connect agents with backend systems and execute actions.
-
Conversational AI concepts: A basic understanding of how chatbots or virtual agents work (knowledge of concepts such as conversation topics, triggers, and entities).
-
Microsoft 365 and Teams fundamentals: Basic user familiarity with these tools is important, as agents built in Copilot Studio are often tested and deployed directly within Microsoft Teams.
-
Logical thinking: The ability to structure processes using basic logical conditions (if/then) and understand how data is stored in simple variables.
Recommended (additional) prior knowledge that makes work easier:
-
Practical experience with building simple automated flows in Power Automate.
-
Prior familiarity with core concepts covered in the PL-900 (Microsoft Power Platform Fundamentals) or AI-900 (Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals) certifications. Taking the exams is not an official requirement, but their content provides an excellent foundation.
Certification
The Microsoft PL-7008: Create Agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio course prepares participants for the official Microsoft Applied Skills assessment: Create agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio.
Unlike traditional certification exams, this Microsoft assessment is performance-based and completed in an interactive lab environment where candidates demonstrate practical skills using Microsoft Copilot Studio and Microsoft Power Platform technologies.
